Tree risk assessment & tree condition survey

Know whether your trees are safe

An independent tree condition survey and risk assessment carried out by a qualified tree surveyor and arborist. We inspect your tree or trees, identify any defects, and assess the level of risk they pose to people and property using the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) method.

When a tree risk assessment makes sense

Trees are valuable and, for the most part, safe. But where a tree shows signs of decline, or where it stands close to people or property, an objective assessment tells you what the real risk is and what, if anything, needs doing.

A tree worries you

Dead branches, fungal growth, a lean or storm damage, and you want to know if it's dangerous.

You have a duty of care

The public can reach your land and you need to manage tree risk reasonably and show you've done so.

A third party has asked

An insurer, neighbour or local authority wants a professional opinion on a tree's condition.

What's included

A thorough, methodical survey

Every assessment is carried out to the standard appropriate to your situation, and written up so you can act on it with confidence.

The method

What is QTRA?

Quantified Tree Risk Assessment moves tree safety away from simply labelling a tree "safe" or "unsafe". Instead it quantifies the risk of harm, balancing safety against the value trees bring, so decisions are proportionate, defensible and based on established risk-management principles.

> 1 / 1,000Unacceptable — control the risk
1/1,000 – 1/10,000Tolerable by agreement, or if the tree has exceptional value
1/10,000 – 1/1,000,000Tolerable if ALARP — control only where reasonable
< 1/1,000,000Broadly acceptable — risk already ALARP

Questions

Frequently asked

How do I know if my tree is dangerous?

Some warning signs are visible, such as dead wood, fungal brackets, cracks or a sudden lean, but many serious defects aren't obvious from the ground to an untrained eye. A professional assessment gives you a clear, evidence-based answer.

How much does a tree survey cost?

Most residential QTRA surveys, also called an arboricultural survey or tree condition survey, start from £250 for a single site, with a fixed fee agreed before we visit. Estate and multi-tree assessments are quoted individually — send us your site details and we’ll come back with a clear price the same day.

How quickly can you turn a report around?

We work around the deadlines that matter to you — an inspection cycle, a compliance deadline or a budget period. Tell us your timescale and we'll plan the survey and report to meet it, and genuinely urgent cases such as a storm-damaged or visibly failing tree are prioritised.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes — I hold an Enhanced DBS check, which is often required for work at schools, care homes and other sites where children or vulnerable people may be present. A copy is available on request.

Do you carry out the tree work too?

Our focus is independent assessment and advice. Where works are recommended we can guide you on what's needed and what to look for in a contractor, so the work is done to the right standard.
